When it comes to natural disaster safety drills you probably remember school and the tedious fire drills routinely through the year. Regardless of how you remember them, these drills are also very beneficial to practice within the home. Whether you are living on your own or with a family, it is safe to have a plan no matter what happens.
Plan your escape route for when you need to get out of your home quickly and safely. If you live in an apartment building management may already have a planned escape route depending where your apartment is located, check with them before devising your own. Familiarize yourself with the escape route so you can use it without issue whenever needed.
Always have a reliable emergency contact that you can tell your children about or count on yourself. Having their information posted in the house, or stored away somewhere like your personal wallet will be severely helpful should anyone find themselves lost or more seriously injured.
Keep an emergency supply kit stored away somewhere safe with essentials needed in case a disaster occurs. This should include a first aid kit, nonperishable food, water, warm blankets, flashlights, some money, and anything else you think you and your family could need.
Be prepared, and stay safe!
