When it comes to protecting yourself, your family, your home, and your possessions, you can never be too careful. So whether you have been in your place of residence for some time, or have recently moved into a new home, here are the items that you should absolutely have to ensure your safety, no exceptions…
1. A home security system: while this should be a given, it is important that you have a secure, functioning system in place. This means that all of the locks are working and up to date (including the locks on your windows), the alarm system itself is working and will set off when an intruder is detected, as well as the garage keys and door. If you are looking to install a new system, we highly suggest going for one of the newer, smart systems.
2. Fire alarms: this is absolutely crucial to have in your home. There should be one in the majority of the rooms in your home, and especially in each bedroom. Remember to change the batteries on an annual basis, and be sure to keep the fire alarms clean to avoid setting them off with excess dust particles in the air.
3. Carbon Monoxide detector: while you should always have fire/smoke alarms in your home, it is equally important that you have a Carbon Monoxide detector in order to detect any toxic fumes that might be present in your home. Regular smoke alarms cannot detect toxic fumes, and it is impossible to see any of these kinds of fumes with your eyes.
4. First aid kit: this will come in handy more than you think, and you would be crazy to go without one in your home! It is a good idea to have more than one of these kits in your home. You should have one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, and one in the medicine cabinet so that they are easily accessible during minor emergencies.
